ANOTHER COPPERHEAD

in #nature5 years ago

Gotta pay attention around here!

Honestly, they are a rather impressive snake. It's just too bad that they are so camouflaged and venomous. We hope to put out a video soon about keeping children safe from snakes when they are outdoors. For now, I'm just having some fun trying to capture some impressive images. What do you think?

I just finally caught my first snake of 2019. A little Brown Snake HA HA. It was in our garden. I will post the blog soon. I also got an awesome spider blog coming soon too. I shared that picture awhile back giving you a sneek peak. It turned out to be one of the coolest spiders that I have ever seen. It was endangered too!

OMG! where was this guy HANGING around!?

Looks like he is keeping his eye on you! Good shots and thanks for the snake education. A few years ago I probably would have been in the category of if it is a snake then it must die! Well...I'm not in that camp anymore! Thanks

Impressive indeed, and all snakes are valuable on the homestead, including the venomous ones.

That said, knowing that we have them around here as well, I am concerned about my animals' safety, but short of keeping them locked in the house 24/7, I have to trust their survival instincts to keep them safe.

Interestingly, I was recently told by a gentleman who grew up near here that copperheads release a scent like a cucumber before they strike, which I hadn't heard before.

A couple of evenings later, a friend told us about some YouTube videos showing cats jumping straight up when someone brought a cut cucumber up behind them, and I wondered aloud whether it was because they associated the smell with a dangerous snake.

Evidently some people can smell snake musk and others can't, but if I'm walking in the woods and suddenly smell cucumber, I'll at least be paying attention.

Love your photos. Gorgeous animal.
