Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is a country on the island of Hispaniola, in the Caribbean. It covers about two thirds of the island. In the west it borders Haiti, in the east is the island of Puerto Rico, north of the Atlantic Ocean and south of the Caribbean Sea. The Republic was declared on February 27, 1844. The capital of Santo Domingo de Guzmán is on the south coast and was founded in 1498 from the La Nueva Isabela built in 1496.
