My Yard, herbally Speaking, is a Pharmacy; so is yours...Conclusion!steemCreated with Sketch.

I would like to clarify my last two posts. I was not clear enough in my writing. These posts were not intended to tell you how many herbs I have in my yard; but to maybe open open a window for you into your yard. Most plants, if looked at with great care, will be seen to have medicinal properties.

Here is the last post:
https://steemit.com/naturalmedicine/@smithlabs/my-yard-herbally-speaking-is-a-pharmacy-so-is-yours-part-two

Once you know that, and check carefully enough, you will find that plants and weeds; in your own local area, are medicine too!

The rest of this is just fun, unless YOU Internalize the fact that you can treat real medical problems...with plant knowledge! IF the SHTF occurs, this will be your only medicine; and if it does Not, it will remain your best medicine! Either way, it could be life itself for you and yours; so this is a study that demands time spent on it, it IS that important

So here are a few more medicinal herbs within the restriction of my yard; to further make the point that plant knowledge is the medicine, and plants are the road to health through this same knowledge!

I will begin with the spiraea bush:

Spiraea is a bush with a large number of varieties (over 100) that is a good source for natural occurring methyl salicylate (oil of wintergreen) and other salicylates; which is a form of aspirin. Used for pain relief in an infusion with anti inflammatory action. It is also a bactericidal for fomentation, enema, and douche use. Not bad for a pretty flower....

Tulip is another pretty flower that is effective medicine:

Tulip flowers are known to be an excellent poultice for insect bites, bee stings, burns, and rashes on the skin. The bulbs are also good to eat as food!

Another off the beaten path herbal flower is Lilac:

Most popular today for aroma therapy; is said to provide a calming effect that eases anxiety. Other reported effects include a purifying, soothing sensation that centers the mind to encourage relaxation.
Medicinally, The Lilac flower has a history of medicinal use. In the past, lilac was ingested to rid the intestines of parasitic worms, and was also used in the treatment of malaria. Some modern herbalists use the essential oil of lilac to treat skin ailments such as rashes, sunburns and minor cuts and scrapes.

Daffodils are another herbally useful flower:
NOTE: This plant is toxic, and this is big boy medicine, so a LOT of care and study must be used, before this one is used!

Modern uses include extracting galantamine from the bulbs to treat Alzheimer’s disease, research at the University of Copenhagen to use daffodil compounds as a treatment for depression and a Chinese study suggests daffodil compounds can kill off certain cancer cells (such as leukaemia). This plant is strong, and the closest herbal to pharmacy strength, CARE MUST BE USED HERE!

Another herbal in flower form is a flower called Pansies:

Externally, the plant contains potent antibacterial and antifungal properties which help the skin retain its health.
In an infusion tea, it is used to treat conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and whooping cough.
Pansies can be used to alleviate symptoms of rheumatism and arthritis as well. This is because the plant contains potent anti-inflammatory properties. This makes the plant an ideal treatment for bruises and broken capillaries.
It is also used to reduce blood pressure. All in all, a very useful flower!

Autum Crocus Colchicum autumnale:
NOTE: This plant is also toxic, and this is big boy medicine, so a LOT of care and study must be used, before this one is used!

That said: This plant and its extracts are used to treat gout and related inflammatory disorders. Autumn crocus may ameliorate hepatitis and cirrhosis, and could possibly have potential in chemotherapeutic regimens.

So, next time you go out in your yard, find ONE plant, and research it heavily. Get to know it, for both food and medicine. Spend a week looking at what it can do for you; THEN do it again witha new plant!

Knowledge is power!

Good one for helping us see the abundance around us and opening our eyes to the medicinal value of some of our ornamental plants. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, I hope it opens some minds to naturalmedicine and the use of local plants to assist us medically, especially if we end up in a grid down situation!.

Even on a daily basis, natural herbal medicines are superior to prescriptions, in my humble opinion.

Plant knowledge is good medicine!

:)

How true! I feel it is superior too and I want to have the knowledge of the abundant medicines found around me for when SHTF and that may be your only option.

So very true; but begin NOW! There is a good starter book called "The Green Pharmacy" I would recommend! I have found no errors in it, that guy is SHARP!

Also, look anything you can find from Commission E out of Germany, their science is very good!

Be Blessed!

:)

Thanks for the info! I have a book series "Sundew Moonwort" by Robert D. Rogers which is quite specific to this area.

I will look that up. If the SHTF, herbal books will become very important!

So I will add this one, thanks.

:)

sir smithlabs! very good post, tremendously educational and informative!

Glad you enjoyed it! It was a challenge to find as much as possible, medicinally speaking, in my own yard.

That was a significant limitation, which made it fun to try.

Part of the reason for the post, was to show people that most plants have some medicinal use, and knowing what those uses are, could be critical if things crash! Herbals will become the primary source of medicine.

:)

yes sir smithlabs but if things crash, which I doubt if they will in our lifetimes, people will have no way to know unless they buy actual physical books about it. Either that or get ahold of you!

We are in the end times. Things must crash, sadly, and I hope I am wrong! But I believe we are in real trouble.

THAT is why I have been pushing you to get up to speed on Herbals, and to stock in a strong first aid kit.

IF I am wrong, herbals are still a better way to treat existing conditions. So the worst case condition, is that nothing happens, but you are healthier due to the use of herbals.

:)

sir smithlabs, do the herbals need to be fresh or if they're dried don't the last a long time?

There are a couple that have to be fresh, but most work well in dried form. I use mostly powdered, and turn them into capsules. If they get older, using more will do the trick.

KNOWING what each plant does, now wile research is easy, is wise! Just like having a good first aid kit, easy now, hard later.

:)

ok sir smithlabs well I was thinking to buy a good variety of good ones from that 4squared company or whatever their name is, and then store them and have a physical book which tells how to make solutions and such and for what conditions etc.

If you buy them for long term storage, put them in Mylar with an oxygen absorber, and freeze, once sealed.

www.our4corners.net

BUT, knowing the actual plants will let you treat directly from the field.

:)

A good hardback book is called "the Green Pharmacy"!

:)
