(This first photo the distillation train was too long, I cut it short by removing the center round flask before continuing after testing it out)

Attempting the production of a minor spagyric. "Glorified tincture" of lavender (which was incubated with its perfected body before this), undergoing further small deaths, as we purify the volatile sulphur and mercury through several repeated distillations and cohobations with the fixed sulphur. Then once done, separate out the fixed sulphur through a final distillation, to perfect that into the salt of sulphur and recombine it to its purified volatile sulphur and mercury.

Which will create our completed "Spagyrica Minor" of Lavender.

I call it a "Spagyric Minor", it is still a true yet slightly lesser "spagyric" since we do end up purifying each principle. Minor because it is working with a short path method, in which the volatile sulphur was not separated out alone first, but extracted using the mercury and then purified together. In what I would call a "Spagyric Major" or "True Spagyric" each element is seperated out, and purified separately before being all 3 married in their perfected state together.

I have BOTH my hats on looking at this post - HSCO AND NATURALMEDICINE! Excited that you are brewing something that will be (hopefully) available on your new store, and fascinating by your process! It must smell amazing too.

Beautiful photographs of your working! I’ve not worked with a full spagryic extract of lavender yet because of its low quantities of Sulfur. This method seems like a good route around that.

Btw, where do you get your lab equipment? You have a bunch of fabulous glass and other materials, like that mantel!

@alchemage Thank you my friend! :)

What is interesting using this method, with each cohobation the fixed sulphur is opened up some more, and some of the fixed elements become volatized. I did 5 cohobations before doing my final separation, with each round the fixed sulphur will begin to rise higher in the flask as most of the mercury has been distilled over. In a previous experiment using this method, I started out with a clear distillate mix of mercury/volatile sulphur of ladies mantle, by the 7th cohobation it was a light clear yellow.

It is a great route for herbs yielding low in essential oil, although lavender is still quite abundant in essential oils 1,2 % of weight of lavender used. Which is quite high. Most plants are somewhere around 0.5%. The highest yielding materials are resins which do not go higher than 10% per weight even so.

Most of my lab equipment is ordered from a german company of glassblowers neubert-glas.de, so far the best site I could find also selling to private individuals.

My heating mantle is an amazon purchase, great deal for 1Liter mantle. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B00B8SNHTY/ref=pe_3044161_185740101_TE_item

Another great source, on Etsy you can find Auric Alembic He makes custom labware if you write to him, pelicans, alembics in any exotic design you might wish.

He has an instagram account where you can see some of his awesome work
Will be ordering a pelican with custom alembic head from him sometimes soon :)

Here some pictures linked from his insta account!
