LA Arboretum - Show Us Your California Contest

Hi Friends,

This post is an entry into the contest being hosted by #socalsteemit where we show our California.

One thing that my family has enjoyed over the years is the LA Arboretum. This is one of the premier ecological arboretums in the country and features a wide variety of plants, trees, flowers, etc from all areas of the globe. Even though it is in the heart of Los Angeles, it is quite large and features acres and acres of great things to explore.

Inside the arboretum is an old train depot, which used to drop off visitors to the Santa Anita racetrack (world famous horse racing venue) but is now a historic building only.

Normally, this is closed off and is only available to tour in the event of pre-arranged guided group or at limited times during the year. However, my son and I were getting some exercise and running around the arboretum and found the area open (I think it was by accident). You really have to know the grounds in order to find it, so when we went over there and found it open, we proceeded to explore it and had the whole area to ourselves. Here is the old depot:

This is one fun thing to do in this great state.
