Musical Mood Of The Day: Dire Straits

Hello, fellow Steem users worldwide! For today's musical mood of the day I would like to write a couple of lines on one of the most finest rock bands in history, namely Dire Straits. Growing up with their music, this post regarding them is going to be quite personal indeed.

Dire Straits were one of the most distinguishable blues rock bands in the United Kingdom. Formed in 1977 by lead vocalist and lead guitarist Mark Knopfler, his younger brother David Knopfler (on rhythm guitars and backing vocals), John Illsley (on bass and backing vocals) as well as Pick Withers (on drums and percussion), Dire Straits' career as a united group spanned 11 years, more specifically from 1977 up to 1988. Following a hiatus that took place between 1988 and 1991, the band reunited in 1991 only to split aways again four years later.

The band released their debut eponymous studio album in 1978 which proved to be a commercial success, topping both the US and UK music chart at the 10th place. In total, the band managed to release a number of no less than 6 studio albums, 2 EPs, 3 live albums, and 23 singles. At the same time, Dire Straits is also one of the best-selling musical acts in history, managing to ship over 100 million copy units of their discographical materials globally. In 2018, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
