Musical Mood Of The Day: Classic Instrumental Rock Band The Ventures

Hello! For today's musical mood of the day I would like to briefly talk about one of the most well known, iconic, and classic instrumental rock bands in the world (still active to this day, mind you), namely The Ventures. The Ventures were formed in 1958 in the port town of Tacoma, Washington, northwestern U.S.

Critically speaking, The Ventures are mainly credited with popularizing the sound of electric guitars in the United States throughout the early 1960s by using several innovative techniques for that time, more specifically flanging (mixing two audio signals together) and fuzz (i.e. a distortion pedal which was later used by the predominantly Seattle-based grunge bands of the 1990s).

The Ventures were also one of the early bands to used 12-string guitars on their records, yet another innovative move on their behalf for their era. Below you can listen to their hit single 'Walk, Don't Run', an instrumental piece which as actually a cover of the same song composed by jazz guitarist Johnny Smith in 1954. Enjoy!
