How U2 Are Using Green Energy to Create Music?

U2 is one of the most popular bands worldwide, and they also prioritize green energy in their work and actions. Over the years, the group has partnered with many private and not for profit entities to support their cause that seeks to fight global warming and support green energy practices.

U2 have supported green energy through their songs. Their famous hit, "Beautiful Day," seeks to encourage listeners to focus and also live with others in unity on earth. The song creates awareness about the causes of global warming and destruction of the planet such as China which is a leader in global emissions, and oil fields. The group has also played an integral role in funding and supporting international bodies dealing with environmental issues such as UNICEF, Amnesty International, and RED.

The band’s efforts also include specific changes in their world tour. The tour organizers promised to organize a concert that is environmentally friendly by balancing the tour’s direct carbon footprint. This is achieved via an offset and comprehensive reducing strategy. The band also hires environmental impact advisors to be part of their tour. The advisors work with venues, production and fans to minimize the environmental impact of the tour without affecting the fan experience. Some of the production strategies include compositing, waste reduction, environmental education and material recycling. The tour organizations also try to ensure that venues apply long-term sustainability practices. This entails various strategies such as energy conversion, VIP parking for carpoolers and hybrid cars, recycling, and composting.

Fan Involvement

The band also involves fans in its green energy efforts. For instance, it coordinates carpool which minimizes fan travel emissions. This is supported by the PickupPal application for smartphones. The band also has Green team volunteers who help fans to recycle bottles and other materials. The band also relies on an offset strategy to ensure that they protect the environment. Through these efforts, the band has been at the forefront of the green energy movement.

Steemians, what do you think of U2’s efforts to help the environment while maintaining a rock band appeal?

I didn't realize U2 did all of this. I love when artists and celebrities use their resources and fame to prioritize and promote the health of the planet and the people/animals on it.

@suncloud It is pretty cool. They have been scrutinized in the past for having a non-eco friendly feature of their concert tour. As a whole, their ambition is to aim high, and are showing that fame and power can be accompanied by a responsibility to treat the planet better and maybe others will follow. Come check out my other posts showing some other artists doing this. I have a bunch more I will be posting as well.
