Definitely for many people, to think about an electric guitar, is to think about Rock. However, there is a model that expanded the boundaries of the musical genres in which these instruments can be used: The FENDER STRATOCASTER .

And speaking of this guitar, or the "Strat" as it is known affectionately, is to speak of "Versatility". Anyone who has had the opportunity to try and have a Fender Stratocaster in their hands will agree with me that it is a unique instrument that adapts to any musical style to be played.

There are many characteristics that make the Strat special, and that has made it the most sold guitar, used, played and desesada in the history of modern popular music; but it is undoubtedly its clear and clean sound, its friendly touch with the performer, the quality of its components and high manufacturing, as well as its adaptability to any musical style, that have made this "piece of art", an essential element for many guitarists in the world.

But to understand the success of this instrument and why its popularity, we must know a little of its history. What were its origins and why it supposed a revolution in its time, which would be lost until today.

The History behind the "Strat":

Undoubtedly, Leo Fender will go down in history as one of the most notable manufacturers of musical instruments, not only for having contributed enormously with his creations, but for having in his possession the invention of which is considered by many the first guitar Body Electric "Solid": The Fender Telecaster.

This is how the manufacturer insisted on building a guitar that far surpassed its predecessor. It was based on the opinion of several renowned guitarists of the time, including Bill Carson, who gave Fender a large number of suggestions to help optimize his new creation. The idea was to obtain a revolutionary instrument that would cover the expectations of the growing public guitarist.

Innovative features:

The Strato entailed the incorporation of previously colorful elements in an Electric Guitar, which would be as innovative, as useful for the new generation of instrumentalists: A more stylized body, with a silhouette that was better suited to the performer's utilities, a revolutionary system of "Tremolo" that allowed to change the height of the notes and then return to its natural state without altering its tuning, the addition of three microphone pickups with the possibility of obtaining five different sounds thanks to a selector that allowed to combine these microphones, in order to obtain greater variety in the sound to be broadcast.

It was not surprising then that, due to all these developments, the Fender Stratocaster dominated the music scene of the 50s and 60s, reaching a place of honor in the taste of guitarists, only played by another guitar whose sound and characteristics they placed her as the direct competitor of the Strat: the Gibson Les Paul. Although honoring the truth, they are two very different instruments, with very different sound qualities ... It's how to compare a Ferrari with a Lamborghini !!! Both cars are two masterpieces of engineering and in the end, consumer taste is what will prevail when choosing one or the other.

Equally happens with guitars, the musician looks for the one that best suits his needs and the musical style that he interprets. It is there where the popularity of the Stratocaster lies, because its sonorous versatility allows it to be used in many styles. Even in genres as strong as Heavy Metal and its derivatives with much more aggressive sound, the Strato leaves relatively well stopped. That yes, must have a mike that fits better and more solvency levels of distortion required in these musical styles. This is why over the years, models with "Hummbucker" or "Double Coil" microphones have been launched on the market, which, unlike the original "Single Coil", reduce noise and provide a more " gordo ", in order to offer the guitarist the possibility of being able to play much more" heavy "songs.

However, it is this original Stratocaster sound, with its "Single Coil" pickups that generate a "Clean and Crystalline" tone as well as its characteristic "Noise", which has made it permeate the taste of the most famous guitarists of all times. Stars of the size of Ercik Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, or Jimi Hendrix succumbed to the charms of this instrument and developed their own sound, which would be linked to the use of their guitar, giving them a very particular and personal stamp. in fact, many of them collaborated with Fender for the development of "Signature" models, that is, guitars whose design was supervised and based on the needs and tastes of these famous guitarists.

For my part, I must confess eternally in love with this guitar. I have tried many other brands and models and I recognize that there are other very good instruments and with an impressive quality in terms of sound and manufacturing; however, the Strato have a special magic, a "Do not Know", something that catches you and makes you want to make it your everyday guitar.

This is my "Strat", my spoiled one !!!

Thanks to my profession as a musician, I have had the opportunity to play many different genres and styles, as well as travel and be in different platforms, with different "Backline" equipment, use amplifiers and effects from different brands and models and, definitely, the guitar which has better adapted to all this variety of factors, is without a doubt my Fender Stratocaster.

"On stage" with my "Baby"

Every guitarist dreams of having in his personal studio several types of guitars, like a Les Paul or a PRS, but without a doubt, the model that should not be missing in the Stock of any good guitarist, is undoubtedly the mythical "FENDER STRATOCASTER ", THE ONE PREFERRED BY MOST OF THE BEST GUITARISTS OF ALL TIMES.
