This tune uses the same

two synth instruments as a previous share, 13 and On, and was written that same night. Instead of being in 13/8, we’re in 17/8 here, which is divided up into two different patterns, one for the Verse (in Brown) and another the Chorus (green). This isn’t nearly as complete as that other track, no real transitions yet, nor much mixing. I think it could use an additional instrument with a melody line at some points too, so when I add those, I’ll update here with a new post about the changes.

Listen to Seven Teens here.

Track 1 provides all the chords,

and as mentioned, divides the track into two parts. The Verse (Brown) uses the following subdivisions: 4, 3, 2, 4, 2, 2 (first bar), 3, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2 (second bar), then repeat. In the Chorus (Green), it changes things up, with what feels initially like a straight 4 (4 sets of 4), but then a single note added on the end (4x4 = 16 + 1 for our 17 beats a measure), 2x in a row, before returning to the Verse. Track 2 is the drums, which don’t do anything too crazy; the hihat changes from straight 1/16ths to upbeat 1/8th notes at certain points, just to differentiate those sections. Track 3 is the bass, which sticks to root notes mostly, dropping out for the 1st and 3rd Verses. Finally, we have Track 4, which is some basic little transitions and impact accents, just placeholders till I figure out what to use here.
