Patti Smith - Redondo Beach
Patti Smith is an artist,
singer, songwriter, writer and poet who is considered to be an important element of the burgeoning American punk scene in the mid '70s. Smith began playing and performing music in the late '60s, and eventually had formed her own group in NYC in the '70s. Her first album is widely considered a punk masterpiece, combining her poetry and rock and roll (often built around keyboards instead of guitar) to create a sound entirely her own.

This song comes from that
debut album, Horses, released in 1975. I really love the reggae vibe, it works great with lyrical theme/title. Smith's vocal style is incredibly unique too, and works perfectly on top the music. It's interesting how the NYC punk scene had so many completely original acts, with no two bands/artists sounding alike. There must have been an incredible inspiration in air, with artists like Smith, Talking Heads, Television, and The Ramones emerging and veering off in completely different directions.
