"63" - EVEN MORE ORIGINAL MUSIC! - IDM/EXPERIMENTAL/HIPHOP + THEORY WALKTHROUGH
Overview of the entire track.
This song will be on
EP 6, which I think I'll be sharing in the next few days, still wanna add a track or two. I went with a little more "normal" of a beat here, rather than all the digibleepbloop IDM sort of stuff, which made it all a little more hiphopy. I was stoked on that. Also some interesting stuff harmonically in this song, a lot of Dorian using the sharp 6, makes the harmony more interesting rather than just a minor progression. Let's get into the tracks!
Listen to 61 here.
Track 1 is the drums,
which are basically divided into just two parts, the "Verse" which is in the beginning middle and end of the track, and the "Chorus", which happens when the bass comes in. The Chorus part just has more kicks and a few more littel fills throughout, just makes it a little heavier and more driving. The first instrument to come in is Track 4, which is the "junior" piano tone. I like the timbre of it a lot, as a creepy sort of quality. It plays E, D, C# (the Sharp 6, making this Dorian), and back to D before repeating. This continues for the rest of the track.
Track 2, described below.
Track 2 is the Theramin sort of synth
that comes in after the first 4 bars, and is the main melody in the song. It plays a E, F# and G 3 times, before moving up to a B, then back down playing G to F#, then repeating. Track 3 comes in after Track 2 plays for 8 bars, and is the same instrument as 2, but plays a different melody line, adding a nice harmony to the whole thing. These play together during the Chorus section, but Track 3 cuts out during the middle and end.

Track 5 is the bass line
and comes in only during the Chorus section. I like the tone of the bass, it has a wobbly dubstep triplet sort of feel. It plays E/B/D/E, E/C#/D/E basically 2x and then repeating. There is a screenshot below so you can better see the progression, and follow along with the song.
Track 5, the bass, described above.
Track 6 actually plays the same
progression as Track 3, using a different instrument. It just adds a little background to the whole track, the harmony isn't as obvious as Track 3, it's a lot quieter, but definitely has an effect. Track 7 is the last instrument to come in, and adds a 3rd melody/harmony line. It's a goofy sort of tone, but I think it adds an interesting element to the track. It only plays the 2nd half of each Chorus, but definitely helps the Chorus build a little more.
Track 7, as described above.
