Metal Weekend #11 - Cover Edition!
Welcome to another Metal Weekend! We have a special edition today: Metal Covers of Rock songs (and other Genres)
I won't waste your time, here we go:
Sirenia - First We Take Manhattan (Leonard Cohen)
Sirenia, a Gothic Metal band from Norway, covering Leonard Cohen's "First We Take Manhattan" song, in their 2004 "Sirenian Shores" album.
Jorn - Lonely Is The Word/Letter From Earth (Black Sabbath)
Jorn Lande is paying a tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio's time in Black Sabbath by mashing up Lonely Is The Word from Heaven and Hell and Letters From Earth from Dehumanizer (my favorite Black Sabbath album 😍❤). The song was on his "Unlocking the Past" album, released in 2007
Blind Guardian - To France (Mike Oldfield)
Released in their 1990 album, titled "Tales from the Twilight World", perhaps this is my favorite cover. I surely have used this song in one of my past "Metal Weekend" posts, but I don't care 😁

Crystal Tears - Beds Are Burning (Midnight-Oil)
Crystal Tears, a Power Metal band from Thessaloniki, released this cover in their 2014 album ("Hellmade").

Heh! Any list that contains even just a mention of Dio is a good list. Nice picks all of them, but "Lonely is the Word" is the best by far -- or I am terribly prejudiced for Dio. As for cover suggestions, I personally like the Twisted Sister cover of "the 12 days of Xmas" which is right on time for this year's holidays!
