MOVIE REVIEW: "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991)
Synopsis: FBI agent Clarice Starling is ordered to find a killer who rips the skin off her victims. To understand how he thinks, she seeks out the dangerous psychopath, Hannibal Lecter, imprisoned on charges of various murders of horrendous proportions.
One of the great mysteries that dwells in every human being is how extensive, complicated, and treacherous the mind can be. There is no doubt about how much this subject generates great interest from the general population, especially from professionals who see the subconscious as their central source of study and work. Apparently there are "inexhaustible" mazes... But little by little, all roads are being broken down.
Cinematographically, the fascination about this content also exists, and this film is an essential copy to try to better understand a part of this mysterious and enigmatic world. With a skilled, powerful and agile script, the deep and consistent plot ends up serving as a springboard for the audience to immerse themselves in an environment of paranoia and chaos that, at a certain moment, mix until they form a single element that cannot be named.
The layers that build - and sustain - the whole story are full of nuances that gain ever more solid and dark contours as the film reaches its apex. In the midst of an extremely dense atmosphere, the film is becoming increasingly complex to be fully understood because it carries with it an essence that is impossible (at least today) to unravel.
There is something very intriguing about everything that orbits this story. From the perilous spark that sparks the fire throughout the script to its categorically well-defined characters, masterfully constructed and developed throughout the projection... The more one digs for the truth behind the facts (or for a meager one). fragment of it), more strange situations are happening and further challenging the viewer's intellect.
The pair formed by Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster ensure that the interest of the audience is easily maintained because their respective performances are nothing short of phenomenal, as well as their characters that are not only overwhelming in strength... They also feed on the secrets that end up. sharing, making it all the more exciting.
Both feature a monstrous technical quality and on-screen chemistry that explodes with each encounter and also shines when they are in separate scenes (but always connected by some information or event). It's the kind of duo that is not easily found in any movie (especially in narratives of this genre), because they really do magic on the screen.
Jonathan Demme's work as a director is no less than excellent, and to say that he worked with surgical precision to handle all the complexity of the script at hand would be no exaggeration. He can extract the best from everyone in every core of the film, can create assertive narrative associations with the outside world through simple elements that connect each character's inner mental chain, and impose a rhythm of inquiry that works on the basis of much. suspense, plots and twists.
Combining all of these hits with a scene editing that prioritizes the disclosure of facts in the right doses (without speeding up or dropping the dull movie), a mesmerizingly captivating soundtrack (with a power to further magnify the most important scenes ) and a photograph that values narrative aesthetics in a wide way (and there are very clear scenes that evidence this)... There is no way to dispute, for a second, the grandeur of this cinematographic work.
The Silence of the Lambs it's an extremely useful movie, cleverly conceived in every aspect, full of tension on all sides, watered by macabre accounts and violent scenes (some of them explicit) that can become indigestible to the most conservative viewers. So this is definitely not the kind of movie recommended for anyone and neither is that kind of movie that will just be another forgettable entertainment option.
