Silent Classic: The Godless Girl

in #movies8 years ago

In his final silent movie before the advent of sound, C.B. DeMille produced and directed this wonderful condemnation of atheism. It shows the transition of a young woman who was the head of The Godless Society in her local high school to becoming a believer in reform school after the accidental death of another girl. The movie also showcases the abject cruelty in many reform schools of the time. With the possible exception of Wallace Beery, none of the actors was/is very well known. However they did a marvelous job depicting life in a 1920's reform school. The movie itself was made in 1929.
