Movie Parallels: Mulan(1998) and Moana(2016)
Disney's latest animated princess film, Moana, will definitely go down as one of the most beautiful films by means of the morals, the visuals, and its character development. In many ways, it could be the new Mulan of the current generation.
Having said so, here are the similarities between the two films:
- Screaming Chicken/s
- Cute pet wasn’t the Animal Sidekick
- Escaping using ropes as a zip line
- Protagonist looking at their reflection (in the water)
- Protagonist is shown trying to be helpful to everyone and is very logical/analytical of every situation.
- The protagonist‘s struggles of learning was shown well and is vital to the story.
- Ancestors’ glowing blue ghost/spirit.
- Similarly, we find out about the ancestors' involvement in the story through the banging of a drum designed according to their culture.
- Beautiful music about self discovery, tradition, and learning.
- Dictation and Defiance of their Tradition
- Grandma knows best and is crazy.
- Both of the protagonist's parents are alive.
- Guide’s/Sidekick’s beautiful relationship with the protagonist.
- Protagonist: Everything that they have done is all in their own will.
- The focus and the twist of story is NOT about true love.
- It’s about a girl who wants to be the perfect daughter but eventually found herself better than what was expected of her.
