Poetic Television Review: Extreme Unction (Homicide: Life on the Street, S3X03, 1994)

In twilight's hush, where shadows play,
A story unfolds, with threads astray,
A murder's snare, a web of deceit,
Lures detectives in, with no retreat.

Extreme Unction, a name that's bold,
A trilogy's end, where tales grow cold,
Ambition's fire, that once burned bright,
Now flickers low, in the dark of night.

Faith and morals, a twisted game,
Where lines are blurred, and truths are tamed,
A serial killer, with a heart of stone,
Leaves detectives grasping, at a truth unsewn.

Pembleton's doubts, a labyrinth to explore,
Where sanity's thin, and madness roars,
Wilgis' confession, a public display,
A fragile soul, with a heart in disarray.

Felton's struggle, a father's plight,
To connect with children, in the dark of night,
A relationship's end, with consequences dire,
A family's bond, that's tested and tired.

The Murder Unit, a team of worn souls,
Weary from the cases, that take their toll,
Bayliss' frustration, a silent cry,
A business's fate, that hangs in the balance high.

The killer's revealed, in a shocking twist,
A woman, with a heart that's lost its wrist,
Manipulative, with a sociopath's grin,
A conclusion that strains, to be believable within.

The "Box" scene shines, with an intense spark,
A moment's magic, that leaves its mark,
But the aftermath, a letdown to share,
A resolution that's hollow, with no care.

Extreme Unction, a season's final sigh,
A trilogy's end, where dreams go to die,
A story that strays, from its original course,
Leaving viewers with, a sense of moral force.
