Poetic Film Review: Gods and Generals (2003)

In the epic tale of Gods and Generals,
Where battles rage and heroes fall,
A controversial retelling of the past,
Pro-Southern bias, a shadow cast.

Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson,
Fight for a cause, a nation's fraction,
But critics cry foul, accusations fly,
Of Lost Cause myth and racist lie.

With a budget grand and battles grander,
The film falls short, its flaws a slander,
Lengthy and rushed, a biased view,
History rewritten, a skewed debut.

Turner's vision, a misguided try,
To glorify the South, the reasons why,
But in the end, the truth prevails,
As Gods and Generals, its legacy fails.

A cautionary tale, a film of debate,
Challenging narratives, the past's weight,
For future archaeologists, a question posed,
Of monuments removed, of history closed.
