Favorite Movie Scenes, #2 - True Romance, The Sicilian Don Vincenzo
This scene is from True Romance (1993), but I will throw out a racism warning. While for the most part, I usually scoff at the use of "racism" to argue a point, I have to admit that this scene is racist. In fact, the heart of the scene is the racism and the contempt that goes with actual racism.
So the scene first, and then a few words.

The first few times I saw this scene, I didn't fully understand what was going on (I can be dumb about human interaction), but I could still see that the scene kicked ass. While Hopper is regarded as a great actor, there are very few people who compare with Walken, and especially in roles such as this gangster.
So what happened? Walken and crew grab Hopper, a little introductory torture takes place, Hopper insults Walken. Walken shoots Hopper. There is a little more to it than that. Hopper realizes he is a dead man regardless, and set out to protect his son and to end his own misery. Hence, he needles Walken into shooting him with the racist diatribe.
There is that old racist joke involving Italian, black, and gorilla in the "what do you get when you cross style", and varies by where you put each subject. For some mafia types, they really don't like those jokes when the butt is the Italian. C'mon Don Sensitive, that joke is racist no matter where you put the Italian.
The dialogue is almost all written by Tarantino; see Hopper's discussion of the scene.
And yes that is James Gandolfini (who played Tony Soprano) in the scene; there is another scene in this with him roughing up Patricia Arquette which is pretty good.
