Mountain Monday in the Dolomite Mountains

These are some old photos of the cable car ride down the mountain in the Dolomites in northern Italy going down into Bolzano. We stayed up in the mountains for a week and this was the fastest way to get into town. I've read that they have recently built a new state of the art cable system and it only takes 12 minutes to get down the mountain. The drive by car on the twisty mountain roads is much longer.

I do love those cable cars in Europe! They give you the best views! I'll ride the cable cars any day of the week after those twisty mountain roads in Northern Italy... with nothing between you and the abyss down there!

If I remember right it took an hour by car to travel to the same place that the cable cars took you in 12 minutes. Some of those roads are pretty darn treacherous! When we were there there were lots of motorcyclists on the road going way too fast and all the time trying to pass, even on the curves. That got kind of scary. I never minded traveling on the cable car at all! Thanks for the tip.
Neither did I! But, the roads were not always so friendly and yes!! The motorcycles were terrible. Let's not forget that going all the way up the Alps or other ranges, even in July could still be cold and have snow on the ground. When we lived there, we spent a lot of time up in the mountains in the winter and I will tell you it sometimes scared the bejesus out of me on the way down, although their roads were better maintained than ours. :)

Trams are so much fun with great views, I got to ride one long
ago up to the Zugspitze in southern Germany and a smaller
one here. Dolomites are so beautiful would of loved to seen
them, such beautiful photographs you have, I really like the
second one showing the windy long road down, now that
looks like fun too!! :-)
That is such a beautiful part of the world! Driving around up there was a blast, and riding the trams sure provided some incredible views!
