Becoming Slave To Your Emotions, Desires Or Things

I have heard so many people blame their emotions or desires for their actions. You hear them say something like:”when I have this particular feeling or desire, there’s nothing I can do about it until I have satisfied it. I just couldn’t be myself any more or reason constructively whenever I have such feelings or desires until I have satisfied it.” The two simple questions that I’m going to ask you here are; “are you a slave to your emotions or desires?” and “does your desire own you or you’re the one that actually own your desires?”

Anything that a man can’t control, controls the man. Have you ever wondered why some people, when they are yet to have money or achieve fame behaves quite cool and reasonable, but the moment they have money, they start behaving proud, recklessly and stupidly? It’s because they allowed the money that they have made to lord over them: instead of them lording over it. They allowed the little opportunity that they had to make them to forget where they were coming from and what it means to be nice, considerate and good. This is just an example of what it means to be slave to your emotions, desires or things.

When a man allows things, his emotion or desires to control him, he becomes no different from an animal. That is why most of them can do anything just to satisfy an urge or cravings. A man that is ruled by his desires or emotions can hardly consider his actions before carrying them out. Their desires or craving for things compel them to engage in acts without considering the consequences of such acts.

I’ve sat alone several times and wondered why rape, sexual violence, drug abuse, corruption, violent crimes, murder, moral decadence, etc, are one the rise and I discovered that these anomalies plaguing our world have been increasing drastically lately because more men and women are becoming slave to their emotions and desires. They can’t say “No” whenever they feel that urge to hurt someone, take what is not theirs, hurt themselves and make the society unconducive. They are no longer in the driving seat of their lives but their emotions, desires and love for things have taken over such seat.

They have so much indulge their desires or cravings that they can no longer control it any more. Their desires now own them and toil with them as it pleases. Most people don’t understand that the more they entertain an inordinate urge or desire, the greater control they are giving such desires over them. A man is his/her “Will” and when the Will of a man is taken over, he becomes a slave to whomever or whatever has claimed his/her Will.

Don’t lose your “Will” by indulging in inordinate desires or cravings. The more you give yourself to such inordinate desire or emotion, the more it claims your will and control your life. A little recklessness here and there is all it takes for a man to lose his Will. You may call being reckless as just a mere inquisitiveness or fun, but such mere inquisitiveness or fun can consume you and enslave you for the rest of your life.

Be wise and take charge of your life! Own your emotions and desires! Be on the driving seat of your life and chart your course! Don’t lose your life to your desires or emotions because life consequences don’t care whether you’re the one on the driving seat of your life or not, it passes judgment on everyone based on their actions. And you’re the only one that will bear the consequences for your actions; so don’t make yourself slave to anything.
