Skull pick

Strange how great portion of our lives we spend thinking about death, meaning of life and afterlife if there is such thing or will be one day in shape of some sort of collective consciousness through technology. Does it necessarily need to be sad or depressing to think about those things? Not necessarily. It is however very fascinating to me. Few decades ago we probably couldn’t even imagine possibly being uploaded on cloud or haven of some sort one day or that we would think about other crazy ideas such as simulation theory.

All these crazy ideas are great food for thought. What are we exactly? What defines us as being alive and conscious creatures? We are mortal creatures in these bleeding bodies right now. Living on borrowed time. Somehow it seems death mostly acts as a force that pushes us to have more meaningful experiences, make it count, keeps us moving, fighting, failing and getting up, reaching for our goals since sooner or later we come to realization that all lives end someday.

What happens when death has been taken out of equation and we are backed up? Are we reaching for stars or exploring our full potential? Seems like why not, but what if it would somehow amplify not only our potential for good, but also potential for bad and we battle us for eternity out of boredom? Would you really want to live forever anyway?

I feel that if death would be taken out of the equation, people would lose their will to drive. I have been meaning to write about it but there is something to be said about life imitating art and art imitating life. Many are attracted o vampires who given long lives, achieve very little other than hedonism and decadence. It seems that given the option, most humans will do similar.

Interesting. I thought about vampires too. You know I love them a little, those suckers, but I really think vampires could accomplish a lot too if only they wanted to. Why there are no stories about civilizations built by vampires? Maybe because they destroy life in order to exist and it just doesn't seem like a good model? But why not? Would be interesting spin on vampire stories.

I also get what you mean about the drive, but wouldn't it be interesting to see were the limits are for someone who has all the time in the world and no worries about health decreasing, loved ones dying etc? If you were given those things, would you stop caring about the things you care about? Would you stop building, reaching, wondering?

Maybe because they destroy life in order to exist and it just doesn't seem like a good model? But why not?

I think that if they actually did something, humans would donate blood as needed.

If you were given those things, would you stop caring about the things you care about? Would you stop building, reaching, wondering?

At some point wouldn't there be little more to reach for? Experience is limited by many factors, perhaps we'd just get bored.

Hi m31. Death has never bugged me as it will happen to all of us at some point. The only guarantee in life is we all die. Positive way of looking at it.

Hi cryptoandcoffe. So you have always been able to accept it as part of life and it never made you think about doing things just because life is too short? Hm.

I think it hit me pretty hard just recently. Made me look at lives people have lived, life I live myself and wonder about all the suffering people go through.

Nope never bugged me. Why worry about other people. Worry about yourself as you take too much on otherwise. You think way too much and control what you can control.

Not even the loved ones? It is hard to separate them from my own feelings about them. I do understand that I can't really help them much to live, it is their life after all, but sometimes it is really hard to watch and observe too.

Yea, you are right about that. I guess I am very slow learner about letting go part xD

Loved ones are different. Obviously we care about them.

I fear the levels of procrastination if I knew I had forever.
Creativity would have to be the prime directive, otherwise such existance in a mundain neverending story of a groundhoug day would be.. torturous, to say the least. Which brings me back to the idea that distinction between heaven and hell might as well depend merely on the perspective of the 'soul'..

So we could end up living in self-made hell forever. Would it be so bad to just say that's enough, time to delete me in that context? Sounds terrible, but hm. Or maybe box me for century then you wake up later and see if you want to maybe try this living thing again? I have such weird thoughts lately xD

Boxing one up is a nice idea that wouldn't have occured to me. Made me giggle. xD
