Si vas a Madrid y visitas la plaza de España, encontrarás a don Quijote que, con sus muy “corteses razones”, quiere desfacer entuertos y ordena parar a una cadena de galeotes.

Los turistas que acceden a la plaza de España por la parte inferior, provenientes del Palacio Real, encuentran a don Quijote y Sancho Panza que les salen al encuentro.

La plaza tiene un monumento central dedicado a Miguel de Cervantes y, tras un estanque, don Quijote parece esperar al visitante y lo llama, levantando la mano, demandando una visita.

Se ha puesto de moda hacerse una foto junto a estas esculturas. Como está permitido, la gente espera paciente, formando una línea, para acceder a las estatuas de bronce del hidalgo caballero y su escudero. Este grupo de personas, formando una ordenada cola, junto a la valla metálica y a los pies del Caballero de la Triste Figura, se tornan involuntarios protagonistas de la historia, porque conforman y recuerdan “la aventura de la cadena de galeotes”.

Una de las primeras y más divertidas desventuras de Don Quijote y Sancho Panza es aquella en que se encuentran con una cadena de presidiarios que son conducidos a galeras. Don Quijote, en su locura, los intenta liberar, saliendo bastante trasquilado.

En el monumento, don Miguel de Cervantes está representado sentado, un poco más detrás y por encima del hidalgo caballero y su leal escudero.

Como mandaba la tradición, todo caballero errante debía tener una dama a quien dedicarle sus aventuras y victorias. Don Quijote de la Mancha, cumpliendo con este mandato de los libros de caballerías, estaba enamorado secretamente de una aldeana vecina, Aldonza Lorenzo y que está representada a su izquierda.

Esta campesina, tras un proceso de idealización en la mente calenturienta del ingenioso hidalgo, da lugar al personaje ficticio doña Dulcinea del Toboso, viva encarnación de la Virtud y la Belleza y que está sentada a su derecha pues es a ella a quien hace ofrenda de todos sus logros y lunáticas victorias.

Yo siempre había accedido a la plaza de España desde la parte más alta, es decir, desde la Gran Vía y había fotografiado el monumento y la fuente por la parte dónde está Isabel de Portugal, pero no me había dado cuenta de las esculturas del caballero errante y su gordo escudero.

Una de las consecuencias que Steemit ha producido en mi es que ahora presto mas atención a lo que veo y me intereso mucho más. Con el fin de hacer alguna publicación interesante, como esta que os muestro, hago fotografías e investigo para hacer un artículo. Deseo que el actual os haya gustado y, como no quiero hacerlo muy extenso, otro día os cuento mas detalles del monumento...

Don Quixote and the chain of galley slaves.

If you go to Madrid and visit the Plaza de España, you will find Don Quixote who, with his very "polite reasons", wants to undo wrongs and orders to stop a chain of galley slaves.

One of the first and funniest misadventures of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza is that in which they find a chain of inmates being taken to the galleys. Don Quixote, in his madness, tries to free them, leaving them quite shorn.

In the monument, Don Miguel de Cervantes is represented sitting, a little behind and above the gentleman knight and his loyal squire.

As the tradition dictated, every wandering knight must have a lady to whom to dedicate his adventures and victories. Don Quixote de la Mancha, fulfilling this mandate of the books of chivalry, was secretly in love with a neighboring village, Aldonza Lorenzo and that is represented on his left. This peasant, after a process of idealization in the feverish mind of the ingenious hidalgo, gives rise to the fictional character Dulcinea del Toboso, a living incarnation of Virtue and Beauty and who is seated on her right because it is her who makes an offering of all his achievements and lunatic victories.

I had always accessed the Plaza de España from the highest point, that is, from the Gran Vía and I had photographed the monument and the fountain on the part where Isabel de Portugal is, but I had not noticed the sculptures of the gentleman wandering and his fat squire. One of the consequences that Steemit has produced in me is that now I pay more attention to what I see and I am much more interested. In order to make an interesting publication, like this one that I show you, I take photographs and research to make an article.
