Starting a business WHILE you work

I was listening to some Gary V and I was blown away at how real he kept it. He was having a conversation about someone who wanted passive income and wanted to lay up on a beach and he told them flat out to their face that it wont ever happen because that isn’t the proper motivation. He told him that the people who truly live like that have worked their face off they didn’t take some short cut or find some secret.

Gary went on to say that if you do want that life and you work a full time job then its your responsibility to get off work and hustle into 2am and then get up and do it again. He told him that if you aren’t willing to go that hard then you ought not have the audacity to dream of being in the 1%. This bluntness is the bluntness that I love. I love how no nonsense Gary V and all other immigrants, black, white, brown and yellow are when it comes to success in America.

Privilege has made us soft. We as Africans, as compared to the rest of the world are very privileged. This privilege makes us believe we are entitled to certain things such as clean water, housing, protection, jobs, etc etc. This softness makes us respond to the lack of those things as some sort of injustice. Instead of doing whatever it takes we take our injustice to the government because this is america and we are guaranteed those things.

If you are at a job that you hate it is your responsibility to keep that job that pays the bills WHILE you hustle your nights and weekends away to build a business that will free you from working. This business can be selling a product, the business can be acquiring real estate but the key is using your off hours to take 10X action until you bring in the revenue that will free you from your 9-5.

So many people want the fairy tale of leaving their job to go and start a business. That is a set up for failure. Even the best idea without funding will plummet. If you are trying to build a business while you are trying to live off that business you will stunt the growth of that business. Keeping your 9-5 will let you reinvest all profits back into the business. This reinvestment will improve the quality of your product which will bring in more customers and as a result more profits.

Don’t get caught up in the fairy easy life. It doesn’t exist. If you want to live like the 1% you have to do things that 99% of people aren’t doing. This includes punting vacations, expensive things and slacking off on nights and weekends playing fortnight. The inverse of that statement is that if you do the things that 99% do you can kiss the idea of truly being in the 1% goodbye. The bible says that all things are possible, it doesn’t say that all things are easy!
