How to Start a Tree Farm

I need to find a low cost state to start my very own tree farm business.

Here are some things I have been thinking about. First tree farms can be very profitable since the longer the tree grows the more valuable it becomes. Institutional investors have been able to increase the value of trees by about 12% per year with little volatility and no correlation to the overall financial markets.

Step 1) If you own a few acres (or can buy cheap land with natural rain), consider becoming a tree farmer. You can feel good about reducing air based carbon, be earth friendly and earn substantial profits along the way.

Step 2) Identify the type of trees you want to focus on.
The most profitable trees take a long time to grow sometimes many decades like oak or pine trees. So maybe plan part of your lot for high value slow growing trees and have part growing faster trees that will generate income along the way.

Fast growing profitable trees include:

Black ash tree or willow shoots. Great for craft fibers or wood that can be woven.

Big leaf maple is great for decorative wood. Artists use it for cabinetry, furniture making and musical instruments. This wood can be cut when the tree is ready and wait for a buyer. The cut pieces generally increase in value as there is currently a shortage.

Almonds and Walnuts are popular to harvest and sell the nuts.

Step 3) Plant, occasionally trim and wait for the tree to be in a sellable state.

Step 4) Profit and repeat.
