Universal Basic Income by Zuckerberg

in #money7 years ago

I just saw an interview by one of my favourite financial commentators Bill Holter on @x22report where he discussed a lot of things and one among all those is that Mark Zuckerberg gave a speech on benefits of having Universal Basic Income.

For those that are hearing this for the first time its pretty simple; government pays you a basic income whether you are working or not and if you think this is just a fantasy they are trialling it allready in Finland to see how it will work.

Now I dont know anyone that will say no to free money and most people wont ask /care where the money is coming from. If someone insists on you getting some money I dont think many would protest that. But this made me think of Monopoly game. When you start of everyone has same amount of money and the goal is to acquire as much property as you can, build hotels on it and charge extravagant fees if someone stands on it. People pay a huge premium compare to listed price so in order to later get all the fines that people pay when they stand on it.

Now at the beginning when everyone lets say has $500 and a street name comes up that says its worth $70 and you buy it for listed price. Middle through the game lets say everyone on average has $5000. If one of your opponents would sell it to you for $300 that would be considered cheap. In other words inflation has taken over and you're willing to pay more as are other players.

So if we all start getting a Basic Income for nothing, all it will mean is that when we land on a particular street we'll be able to play the game and pay the fine and survive one more day in the game. And just like in the game when you pass GO you get some money for no reason, like that we will get some Basic Income for no reason and its most likely that money will be going to pay for landing on someones property (increased rents, increased prices of goods and service, increased house prices, stocks). Has Zuckerberg played too much monopoly?

Result: Dow Jones 100,000.

Free money and Enough money for a basic standard of living are different. I don't think basic income will be able to cover expenses past a warm place to sleep and something to eat. People will still need to be educated in order to afford the better things in life. Providing a basic income for people, in theory, should free up time for them to upgrade their education.

True. That basic income will cause so much inflation i dont think it will even be enough for a place to sleep even. Overnight everything would double. But share market would go up leading some to think that things are getting better in the world. Crash in markets is bad no confidence in financial system but a rise gives false confidence to some

Paper money problems. An educated populous leads to a better economy though.

There is no cost to free money, its FREE. LOL
Cheers @silverbug

just like cordial the more water you add the less it tastes like juice and more like water; you keep doing it enough money will be worthless, then we go back to silver/gold/bitcoins/SDR/barter/whoknowswhat

I think it is pretty well worthless now, it will just finish it off and become toilet paper. It wouldn't even be a good quality toilet paper. Cheers

I penned this article on this exact topic which is very important and very under the radar.
