Fabricio Werdum sanctioned by USADA for potential doping infraction

Fabricio Werdum is the latest UFC fighter to find himself in the crosshairs of USADA (U.S. Anti-Doping Agency). The 40 year old Brazilian was in talks to be featured on the epic UFC Moscow card against Oleinik however looks like that hit a big snag.

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Fabricio Werdum of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on April 25, 2018.”

Werdum had previously complained about the USADA without much reason saying:

“I think that this testing is too much, too strict,It didn’t have to be that much. It’s one thing to take something to recover faster… I’m not saying steroids, no. What I say is that USADA is too much sometimes. It’s too much. It didn’t need that much. This testing is stricter than the Olympics.”

“I’ve never seen this before. I think it could be better. There are things that you could take that wouldn’t affect your performance, but you would recover faster. Last month Josh Barnett was cleared of all USADA charges - something unheard of upto that point. Barnett (40) had tested positive back in 2016. At one point a 4 year suspension was hanging over his head. In the end USADA cleared him of doping violation saying:

“He unknowingly ingested a Contaminated Product. In doing so, he did commit an ADPV because he had a Prohibited Substance in his Sample but he did not actively engage in attempting, in any way, to engage in the use of a Prohibited Substance.”
