The Importance of Mental Health’s Education and Screening in all Social Sectors

in #mentalhealth2 years ago

There are a lot of people around the world who suffer from mental health, but the awareness or education about mental health is few. And because of that, the possibility of reducing mental health cases all across the world is impossible, because very few people have knowledge about it, and most importantly those that have enough knowledge on mental health still try to keep it a secret even if it is affecting them all because they don’t want to be seen as someone mad. It will be very helpful if the government passes a bill that enforces mental health screening to be performed in routine medical visits. But before doing this I think the government needs to make sure that mental health is taught in every sector of society, like; Schools, Churches, Offices, &, etc. Because once society has enough knowledge on Mental health there will be no reason for them to resist the mental health screening routine. Speaking of the two forms of Mental Illness which are Any Mental Illness (AMI) and Serious Mental Illness (SMI), are common in the United State of America.”In 2020, there were an estimated 52.9 million adults aged 18 or older in the United States with AMI. This number represented 21.0% of all U.S. adults. The prevalence of AMI was higher among females (25.8%) than males (15.8%)”(“Mental Illness”). Basic mental health screenings conducted during medical visits are not sufficient if there is no abundant knowledge of mental health diseases and how to approach them. By requiring Mental health wellness visits, the government needs to have a system put in place where their citizens will have adequate education on mental health situations. They need to make sure that citizens understand that Mental health is like any other sickness in the world, so at least people won’t be afraid to admit the fact that they are ill and will need to seek medical assistance from a Doctor or Expert who has more experience in such a field. I think one of the main reasons why the increased rate of mental health keeps rising is because the majority of mental health patients agree that they are ill when the sickness is at its worst stage, and in that case, it will be very difficult in treating such a disease.

Based on these facts mentioned above, I agree with such policies listed above and they are very effective in eliminating Mental Health illnesses in America and the world at large.
