After five years of litigation by Tea Party groups against the IRS, the final lawsuit was resolved. The IRS (read: U.S. Taxpayers) will pay $3.5 million because of the IRS’s highly intrusive and unconstitutional inspections orchestrated by the Obama Administration. The facts of the case clearly established that Obama weaponized the IRS to shut down Tea Party groups so he could win the 2012 election. The IRS claims it made changes so that political targeting can’t occur in the future. I’ve heard that song before. Supposedly such changes were made in the 1970s after it was proved that President Nixon used the IRS in the same way. The money will be split between the lawyers who argued the case and more than 100 Tea Party groups. Judge Michael R. Barrett called the settlement “fair, reasonable and adequate.” This is just more proof that we have to eliminate the IRS once and for all. Anytime you have a federal agency that claims a right to look into the political and religious habits and practices of any person or group, you have a recipe for disaster. There are simply no administrative changes that can prevent this from happening as long as you have people willing to do whatever it takes to win an election.
