@mandelsage Challenge Week 3 (14-minute video)

in #mandelsagechallenge6 years ago

@profanereviews and @reactionaries nominated me for this challenge. So naturally, I rope in my lady love @randomli to come join me. @mandelsage has created a challenge for increasing human interaction on Steemit, so who are we to refuse?

I can't believe this is my first time to use DTube. Well, considering I'm shy as heck when in front of the camera, I'm not too surprised. Apologies for the grainy audio and the bit near the end when it started to rain. It's my vehicle's wipers you're hearing, by the way.

Since I just finished nominating people for a different challenge, I'm nominating my other buds to join in on this. The lovely @dreemit (who has her first book published recently GO BUY IT!), the unreal @therealpaul and the poetic @josediccus heed my call!

BONUS POINTS: Count how many "y'know"s I said. Apparently, "y'know" is my safe word to prevent me from pouring out emotions from my eyes.

PS I meant to upload this yesterday, but the file size was 1 GB so I had to convert the video to a more manageable size. Since I'm not home, it took longer than I planned. Apologies for the loss of quality and if I overlapped with week 4. Hakuna matata!

Hi @jedau. Man, I watched this video on friday or saturday and it made me so emotional and inspired. At the time I was too tired and was so sure I had commented but unfortunately, looks like not. But better late than never.

Reading through the update comments, I saw your wife's coming back today, I'm glad and prayers to her health only getting better from now.

P.s: You guys make the cutest and most brave couple, and I wish y'all the best in all your future endeavours. :)

Thanks, man! Much appreciated :D My wife is now able to read this comment live and she sends her utmost gratitude for the well wishes as well!

Glad to hear that :)

Thanks for stopping by, man!

I want to hug you both so hard, a big squeezy bear hug! And though I can't physically do it, I hope you can feel my hug and love for you both. Sending all the positive healing vibes I can to you Li.

That was a fantastic first Jed, you always inspire me with the things you try on here. I'm glad you didn't start crying though, because I would be a huge bawl baby right now if you did! As it is I'm choked up.

So I've just started a new diet. Perhaps when I reach my goal I will find the courage to get my face on camera. I've been working on just getting used to hearing my voice on video so baby steps!

I hope your time apart flies by, and may this be the longest you ever have to spend without each other!

I'd hug her for you, but right now I couldn't even go near her :( We're actually living separately for the time being on account of my sperm can't be exposed to the radiation :'( It's a real challenge, but it has such a huge pay-off!

Trust me, dialy-SIS, my eyes are swollen from all the crying! My eyes were burning by the end of the video. I had to hold it in because it would be difficult to drive while sobbing.

The challenge would still stand when you reach your goal! Don't think you're escaping it that easily ;) Before I heard my own voice recording, I had thought that I sounded a lot like Morgan Freeman. Sadly, that isn't true.

I've only been separated from Howie for more than three days twice in our whole marriage- I know how hard it is, though your reason makes it that much harder! I'm glad you have a positive view on it- the pay off is worth it!

Haha, I think every guy fantasizes that they sound like Morgan Freeman! I always think I would do more audio books if he was the one reading them ;)

We're near the halfway mark, so I'm just reserving all of this energy for when we reunite ;)

I have a confession to make. 50% of the time, I write the way I write because I'm imagining Bryan Cranston reading it in audiobook form. If something doesn't sound like it would come out naturally from Bryan Cranston's mouth, consider it scrapped. Well, that goes for novels strictly. For short stories, it varies hahaha!

Been a long time, buddy... Man, that video really got to me. You guys are obviously kindred spirits and an absolutely beautiful couple to boot. Bless you both and best of luck with the treatments.

My awesome friend, @jedau...

Thanks, man! It's only one treatment, but the isolation was a real bummer. Not to mention the medical bill >.< Her isolation time is up though so she's coming home tomorrow!

So glad to hear that the initial treatment went well and she is coming home now! Again, you guys make for the cutest couple ever and I can see how much you both mean to each other. Bless you both... :)

Thanks, man! While we won't be able to sleep on the same bed for a week or so, at least now she's home. I can't say we're the cutest, but I'm glad we're able to breathe the same rarified air as you and @rea :D

Aw this is lovely. Separated by mere hours! One soul two bodies as my old mum always says. An emosh video!

I don't know if I could ever do an in-car video Iv don't think I have the concentration!

After a barrage of funnies, this is the only way to catch people off-guard! Gots to keep things fresh, said no butcher ever.

Sure you can, BOOM-chikapop! I'm sure you're going to have splendid company by way of a wasp!!

Ha, one for in the car today and I squealed!

Well you got em. Boof, right in the heart!!

That's all I could ask for.... aaaaaand a boatload of STEEM haha! But, at least I got one of my wishes! Can't complain with that!

Right before the good Uncle spars with himself, he would have a whole colony of wasps to deal with!

I can only imagine the mayhem! It might be big stem time soon the way the price is going!

All my appendages are crossed for it! That's right ladies ;)

I got me some mighty fine crossed appendages!! All ready to go!!

I say, sir, would you mind introducing me to said appendages? I'm sure that they'll find what I peddle quite interesting ;)

Totally agree MeesterBoom! I've been friends with Jedau too for a while, great guy. So happy to see that these two lovely people have found each other! I'm just glad they made it through the video with out a car wreck! Congratulations on your recent marriage guys!

From Kiev Ukraine - Dan "World Travel Pro!"

I am awfully happy they made it alive too, hehe!

I first want to say that off the cuff videos are the best kind, and I absolutely love the vibe between the two of you. Finding someone who shares your style of adventure in the world is GOLD. Lets see more of this. To @randomli I hope you are feeling better than you have in a long while after taking care of your health. Great to know more about you both!

Thanks for nominating me to do the challenge! It was indeed the catharsis we needed :D @randomli is getting out of hard isolation tomorrow, so she's coming home. We'd be sleeping in separate beds for quite some time, but at least she'll be here haha!

Wow can I even begin to express how emotional this made me? First of I don't even have a girlfriend not to talk of a wife, and to have been married for 5 months it's such a sweet thing forgive me, but I had to watch this everything so my comment is coming late, buy Evey word, sentence and point you made, made me so emotional, this is a lovely lady no doubt and how you met her is even more outstanding you know? In elementary school? That's Romeo and Juliet stuff 😀😀.

However the thing is I've not even heard of this challenge, lol I guess I've been struggling a lot here for me not to notice it.

I'm also very concerned, I hope the doctors have affirmed that she's gonna be okay?

Wow wow, this is beautiful my friend.

Aww man, thank you for sharing this wonderful sentiment! I appreciate you taking the time to do so :)

It's a new-ish challenge, and basically you just put a camera in front of you, click record and share your thoughts or your life experiences haha! I'm not sure, but that's how I did it haha!

So far, she is. We can't confirm if the thyroid has been zapped completely for 6 to 9 months after. Fingers crossed that the radiation would just melt it away.

Hi again @jedau and @randomli ... So I finally got to watch the whole video yesterday and let me echo @dreemit below in saying that I really wish I could be there to give actual support in the form of hugs. That's quite the crazy adventure you guys have to go through and I hope everything works out for the best. I'm also very honoured that you chose to share that through this challenge... When I first thought of it, I thought of people sharing videos with their pets, typical days at work, etc, and of course these types of vids are fine, but you guys really took it to heart and made yourselves vulnerable.

On a side note, my wife has hypo thyroidism so I have some idea of the problems a malfunctioning thyroid gland can cause. Please do keep us all updated!

When @reactionaries and @profanereviews brought it to my attention, it's the first thing that came to mind. I had to run it by @randomli to see if she felt comfortable enough to share it. Putting up a light everyday video did come to mind, but I really wanted to go all-out with this, as I do with everything here on Steemit. The challenge deserves that much.

Now that @randomli had her thyroid zapped (fingers crossed that it's completely gone), she's hypo now as well, and will be for the rest of her life. Hypo is easier to manage than hyper because there are a lot of things that can be done to boost thyroid function like diet, etc but it's hard to get thyroid function down. So, that's great for your wife. For people afflicted with thyroid problems, she got the best case scenario. It's not goiterous?

Well I'm very glad you did, it put you both on my radar =)

Light videos have their place... In fact, I've started using Ulog for that kind of thing. But the Mandelsage Challenge has definitely become something more for getting to the nitty-gritty, real, You. Like my recent one about "What Keeps Me Getting Up Every Morning"

I truly hope that the zapping worked and it's gone for good. Indeed, my wife only needs to take her Puran T4 pills and everything is more or less okay. And no, thankfully not goitrous!

Woohoo! I'm glad it's not goiterous! I guess that's what the missus is going to be taking as well more or less. Better hormone replacement that anti-palpitation pills eeesh!

I'm glad to be put in your radar. That's what I live for! I'll check it out in a bit, I'm just a bit busy at the moment.

Great introduction and we hope @randomli is recovering nicely. Maybe instead of turning to the Hulk, she will be a web slinger.

Thanks for the well wishes and the nomination, man! Fingers crossed that it worked splendidly, but we won't know for sure until 6-9 months after. She's already my little spider monkey, so I guess it's leaning towards the latter. Thwip!

Well I was about to cry for you, but I see that you are strong, and you talked me out of tearing up. It's nice to 'see' you and your wife! Now, about that challenge; nearly every bit of my being is saying to not even think about trying this challenge, that it is for the very brave, but I'm thinking about it anyway. At this time, I plan on chickening out, but that's just today's mood, perhaps. Thanks for thinking of me for this! We will see...

No, no, no. By all means, cry on behalf of me, brother. Take a video of yourself while doing so. It's so strange that I've spent two years on Steemit without ever "showing myself" on camera. Back then, the selfie was already a huge leap, but my voice has eluded the blockchain until now.

Please do, man. I think that peeling back the curtain and letting the folks see the real real you would be awesome! You're such a great person and I'm sure that it'll translate the same on video. The offer for the challenge doesn't expire, so take your time. I know how hard it is to make the leap. I was the same way, until I bit the bullet. I practically begged my wife to come join me so it wouldn't be as painful for the both of us doing it together. Perhaps @dreemit, you and I just share that video-shyness inherent in our breed haha!

I'm still thinking about doing this, but not just yet...

You know what they say about time waiting for no man? Well, it waits for you, the real Paul. Rest assured that it does.

You seem easy going and quite comfortable with the camera. I appreciate your story on Dtube and how personal you both are. Thanks my friends.

I am easy going, but it took quite some internal convincing just to get me in front of the camera. Trust me, I was a ball of anxiety during the whole recording, I just went with the flow to ease my nerves. Thanks for taking the time to view and comment on it. I appreciate it greatly! :D
