So beautiful!!! Indeed, there cannot be flowers without insects. And they are equally awesome.
For your North facing garden I would suggest Lily-of-the-valley. They love shady places and they spread very fast. Not to mention their deep green leaves covering the ground.

There are some Lily-of-the-valley in our garden and it is mixed with geranium. I will try to make some photos these days.
