A Beautiful Orange Wasp

Last night, I found this beautiful orange wasp with it's contrasting electric blue eyes. It belongs to the family Ichneumonidae which are parisitoids of caterpillars. This one appears to be a male as it has no obvious ovipositor.

The photos below were taken with a Canon 7D and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens.

This lateral view show how it has it's metasoma (posteria end) is raised into the air. It is likely releasing pheremones to call any females that are in the area.

This last shot gives a better idea of the length of it's antennae.
