When there aren't many highlights, I try -3-+3 without burning pixels, but when shooting against the sun, I think -1-+1 could be better.
I got lucky with this one although not having a tripod with me + the canon 600D always gave me unsolvable aberrations most of the time.
The Nikon D750 is great for hdr, did weeks of research before buying it - I had no #fullframeclue. Looking at different tests it beats the Canon 5d3 in what the camera can capture from highlights to shadows. Only thing I hate about the D750 is the missing 180° flip screen your Canon has
