Brave Female Kurdish Fighters

Kurdish women have always played key roles in the Kurdish society and struggles. The first female Kurdish leader can be dated back to ancient times. Indeed, Zrena daughter of pir Shailar led the army of the median empire after her fathers death. There are many more examples of Kurdish female historical figures assuming leadership roles in the realm of politics, religion and military.

However, more recently they have led the fight against the most brutal and barbaric terrorist organisation on the planet called "ISIS" or known as daesh. Women's Protection Units or Women's Defense Units (YPJ) is an all-female kurdish military organization and was formed in 2012. Women make up to 40% of the Kurdish fighting force in North Syria (also known as Rojava).

Their bravery and courage on the battlefield is truly remarkable. I believe we can all admire and support them. Here are some photos and videos of brave female Kurdish warriors :
