Do people hang padlocks on their wedding day in your country?
An interesting tradition to hang a padlock on the wedding day and throw away the key in the water came to us in the early nineties, after the publication of the novel by Federico Moccia "Three meters above the sky".
The heroes of the novel swore to each other in love, wrapped a lamppost on The Milvio bridge with a chain and hung a lock on it. And the keys were thrown into the Tiber.
In Italy, the tradition is common today, but the authorities of Rome, Florence and other cities are actively fighting it, until the introduction of fines. The reason is obvious-only one bridge in Florence in the year cut down about 400 kg of metal. That's so unromantic… :D
A wedding ritual associated with the locking of the hanging castle was also in Russia the long time ago. After the wedding, the couple closed the lock on the threshold of their new home, and gave the keys to it for storage to the oldest member of the family. So happiness and well-being of a young family in the truest sense of the word were in the hands of the elders of the clan.
Photos of these padlocks were taken in Stavropol. As you can see, this tradition is still alive and popular.
