Daily bible reading: "But if anyone obeys his word, love of God is truly made complete in them."
The first letter of Saint John begins by presenting Jesus as the Word of Life. This is the continuation of the 7 affirmations of the "I am", where John introduces us to the "son of man". Jesus personifies the word of God: “I am the bread of life", John 6:35; “I am the gate” John 10:9; Jesus personifies the guide of God: “I am the light of the world” John 8:12; “I am the good shepherd”, John 10:11; Jesus personifies the righteousness of God: “I am the way, the truth and the life” John 14:6; Jesus personifies the life: “I am the resurrection and the life” John 11:25; Jesus personifies the joy of God: “I am the true vine” John 15:5. Christ is the personification of God's perfections: "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect", Matthew 5:48.
To obey the word of God is to follow Jesus. God's love comes from wisdom because to love something you have to know it first. This is why the Gospel of John affirms: "But if anyone obeys his word, love of God is truly made complete in them.", 1 John 2:5.
The apostle speaks to us of complete love, the love as such is the love of the adult man, this love also called Agape, the love of charity represents the true knowledge of God: "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is charity", 1 John 4:8.
There is a dialogue in the gospel of John that explains the nature of love: "Jesus said to Simon Peter: Simon, son of John, do you agape more than these? Yes, Lord, you know that I philia you", John 21:15-16.
Jesus asks Saint Peter if he has Agape, the love gift of the holy spirit, and Peter answers him with Philia the love of the soul. After this answer Jesus promises the holy spirit to the disciples, Philia represents an intermediate state between good and evil. Agape is the complete love, the love of those who are born from above: "No one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.", John 3:3.
