private monitor from old LCD

in #live6 years ago

You can finally do something with your old LCD monitor, which is lying around in your garage. Turn it into a spy monitor! For all around it it will look just a white screen, but not for you, because you will have special "magic" glasses.

Here's what I used:

  • Of course this LCD monitor
  • disposable 3d-glasses from the cinema (old sunglasses are quite suitable)
  • solvent (or analogues)
  • paper knife
  • screwdriver
  • paper towels
  • Super glue

Step 1. Take the monitor.

Find an old monitor that you are willing to sacrifice.

Remove the plastic frame by unscrewing all the screws on the back.

Step 2. Cut out the polarizing film.

Most LCD monitors have a coating on the glass of two films: polarizing for filtering light, which you should not see and a matt anti-reflective film. We do not need anti-reflective, and we use polarizing radiation in our glasses.
It's time to take a knife and cut the film at the very edge of the screen. Do not be afraid to crush, metal will not scratch the glass if it does not have any crumbs and dust.

Then pull the film off the screen. Do not forget to save the polarizing film, just remember its orientation.

Step 3. Clean the screen from the adhesive.

After you have removed a film, probably, on the screen there was an adhesive, we pass to dirty work.
Peel the adhesive with a solvent and paper towels.

I found that if you cover the screen with paper towels soaked in a solvent and letting them lie down, removing the glue will be easier. Just to remove the glue, you can use some piece of plastic or wood, just scraping the glue from the screen.

Step 4. Work on the monitor is completed.

After you have cleaned all the glue, you can collect a monitor. Even before you make glasses, you can test the monitor with a polarized film!

Step 5. Remove the old lens.

To create glasses, I used one-time 3D glasses from the movie theater, but you can use any others.

Press out the glasses or disassemble the glasses, if possible.

Step 6. Scan, trace the boundaries, cut out.

I scanned the glasses, you can use them as a sample for their arrangement. Remember that its orientation is important for the polarization film. The sides also have values (front / back).

Step 7. Collect the glasses and enjoy!

You can collect points, you are ready to have a little fun!

People may think that you are crazy, staring at the white monitor, sitting in sunglasses!

But it seems to me that this makes this invention even more fun!
