Electricity generator or 'electrogenic' bacteria is nothing new. They are found in some places in nature. But these bacteria that are inside the stomach and produces electricity were not known.
Daniel A. Portnoy , Berkeley Microbiologist of the University of California do this research.
Dr. Portnoy got his college degree in bacteriology from UCLA in 1978 where his energy for microbiology. He next earned his Ph.D. in 1983 under the tutelage of Stanley Falkow at the University of Washington and Stanford.
As part of the research, a laboratory called listeria monocytogenase was tested in the laboratory. These bacteria can enter the body with food and create an inflammation called listeriosis. These bacteria can be seen in an electrochemical chamber, they are actually able to create a current.
The way electricity is created :
Some bacteria exposes the electron created during metabolism. Its main purpose is energy production.
Listeria bacteria can also create energy in other ways. But the process of generating electricity is an alternative to their energy production. Bacteria produce electricity in certain conditions. In addition, it is found that listeria produces electricity in a very simple way compared to other bacteria.
After the release of listeria due to any genes, researchers found that some of the bacteria inside the stomach produced electricity by this means. This behavior is also seen in some bacteria that even produces yogurt.
Researchers expect the data obtained from this study to be possible by using future bacteria to produce electricity.
