New research details how hurricane weakening is delayed by Mississippi River freshwater in Gulf
While the river water may be cooler than the surrounding saltwater when it first leaves the river's mouth and enters the sea, it is quickly warmed by the heat of the sun, and it retains that warmth by not mixing with the cooler and heavier saltwater below.
Interesting article about how hurricanes stay stronger longer near major fresh water river. I never knew that, but it makes perfect sense now. Hopefully this year will not be as bad for hurricanes as is forecast right now. People need a break from bad news for awhile.....
