No One Likes A Negative Nelly
I wonder where that expression came from. Do you think there was someone named Nelly who just shat on everything that people named her negative Nelly. And why do we assume it is a female, Nelly could be the name of a man... or a horse. I'm sure we just made up the expression because of the alliteration but you never know. And if there was Nelly, he or she was not liked.
Why you ask?
Because negativity sucks. People don't like to hear people complain. They either want to be happy or they want to work to fix things. And if you are not helping with one of the two, guess what, you are going to irk people off. I'm not saying you need to be smiles 24/7 and there are times when you need to vent. Or cry. But if all you do is point out why this sucks or that sucks and do nothing to help with it, people will get tired fast.
To make things worse negativity breeds negativity. You know why you have no friends and no one likes you, because you spend all you time talking about having no friends and no one liking you. If you try to be positive and say nice things to people, maybe even smile once in awhile, you might be surprised with the results.
When it comes down to it, it makes no sense to be negative. Your job sucks. I hear you. But you are there for 8-12 hours. So you can be miserable or try to enjoy it the best you can. Because either way you are there for the next 8-12 hours. It is illogical not to be positive. Or at least try. I know it is not that easy, nor is it the flick of a switch, I'm just saying to make the effort to be a little more cheery. A little more positive. Or at least spend a second to think before you post another negative nelly thing or bitching, again, to your co-workers.
