SPRING PLANNING! OR IS THAT PLANTING?
When do you make your plans for spring planting?
Mid summer I was already making mine and ordering seeds!
As a seed-a-holic (I self admit I love seeds) and have a collection to rival the seed banks of the world, I would really need a few thousand acres if not millions to plant all I have in my collection.
And alas I have earned my title from my son of being a seed hoarder and fences do not hold me back from collecting some of a rare to me tree seeds to collect that happens to have a bull roaming (ever see a short woman running for a barbwire fence with a bull heading for her and it most likely was me).
According to my son no place is off limits for my hunt for the seeds and I just happen to always carry seed envelopes ;-) which is most times around 25 or so.
Ever see a kid sink down in the seat so no one has to see the shame he is feeling from having a seed hoarder of a parent?
And please lord open the ground up if someone he knows stops to look!
Any and all trips are potential seed harvesting adventures, a trip to the store, trip to the cemetery (yup lots of seeds there) as well as on old county roads. So needless to say when I hear of a new place that sells them I have to check them out.
My hunt is for heirloom.

I only ordered 33 pks (I am getting better!) and they included a bunch of free pks!

For some reason I no longer get in the mail any seed catalogs (suspect hubby has something to do with this).
So tell me what all you are planning and planting?
How many are seed hoarders?
How many acres do you need for yours?
So welcome to steemit, read, respond and be real.
My husband would be thrilled that ONLY that number- lol
Mine was! Yes I admit I am a seed-a-holic....
I have more seeds that I could every use. I am always amazed how God is the God of multiplication. 1 seed can produce thousands more! As for next year going to plant more herbs and I also planted garlic for this first time this year too!
Awesome on the garlic! Raccoons eat all of mine. Man thinks of a single apple but only God knows how many apples will come from 1 seed, yes we are so blessed!
I lost a couple of them to I believe chipmunks...they dig everything up! I started out small and planted a bakers dozen in total. If all goes well I will plant more next year! As to being blessed...AMEN to that!!
I tried a rain gutter garden in hopes to prevent them from hitting it so bad, yup they climbed to get them.
Last month I did a post that talked about the chipmunks I have. If you have not seen it please take a look. Chipmunk part is the last part of the post.

Seed collecting is one of my dirty little secrets, because like you I go above and beyond collecting them. I'll be starting some seeds pretty soon. I'm considering trying to grow artichokes and keep them alive long enough to bear fruit. A real challenge in my area.
I'm not sure what all I'll grow, but I'll start with usual suspects, carrots, parsnips, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans. And I'll stuff as much as I can of what ever else I grow into every nook and corner of my yard.
It would take a few hundred acres to plant everything I have seeds for!
I order my seeds online from Bakers Creek and each order I have gotten a free pack of seeds.
Discord has a Homesteaders online group.
I order almost exclusively from Baker Creek. We try to attend their Spring Planting Festival every year, it's only about an hour and a half east of us and definately worth the drive!
If I lived that close I would go every year too.
LOL And I would be one of their on site gardeners!
These are a mom and pop company.
