The world took notice when Frank Gehry designed the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Since opening, the Los Angeles landmark has become an architectural must-see. It’s one of the most recognizable buildings in the world.

Gehry hopes to repeat his success.

Right across the street.

The Grand will finally start construction this fall. Designed by Gehry, The Grand is a mixed-use development that will be located across the street from the Disney Concert Hall. It will offer apartments, condos, retail, restaurants, and entertainment options. It will include a 40-story condo/apartment building, as well as a 20-story luxury hotel. The base of the complex will feature unusual landscaped terraces with retail stores and restaurants.

In many ways, The Grand will “complete” the concert-hall. It will be aesthetically similar, using many of the same design elements, colors and materials. The development will even project videos of what is going inside the concert hall.

The project cost is estimated at $1 billion.

The Grand was first proposed in 2004. The project was eventually shelved during the extended recession. Related Properties has recently obtained financing and the project will soon start.
