“I’m hungry,” he says and sits by the road.
A patch of grass alongside the highway is our table. Canned food quenches our hunger. Non-gourmet style. Pit’s limited in his choices because his gut cannot bear genetically modified food. It’s not a whim to impress, but a necessity that keeps his intestines happy and people around him safe.
I wipe off the spoon with a paper tissue and gaze into the distance. Pit dozes off, his head leaning against the suitcase. The sky at the sunset calls for a photograph. I soak it in, filming with my mind is much more valuable than remembering the moment through a viewfinder or a phone screen.
At night, when the traffic abates, a pleasant relaxing air brings invigorating herbal fragrance. In between scarce cars passing by, occasional frog croaking disturbs the silence. I find indulgence in that sound. It creates a lazy feeling which replenishes my body and eases up my thoughts. Many minute details define a state a person adopts.
That state often makes the difference between a good and a bad life.
