Puritanism. The haunting fear that someone, somewhere may be happy. - H.L. Mencken

H.L. Mencken is one of my heroes. He was a journalist, an author and a pain-in the-butt to many politicians and fervent religionists. This quote sums up the life of many who simply don't want others to be happy. I think the quote speaks for itself. What do you think? Please leave a comment. It is fortunate that true modern Christianity concentrates more on love, friendship and helping those who need help. Whilst realising that they themselves will always be far from perfect.

Thank you for your comment, @scarletpimpernel. I think there are many who focus on love, friendship and helping those in need. That is very good and I see that practiced also by many Muslims, Jews and in other religions. What I find utterly intolerable is the, now finally aired to the public, disclosure of the Christians who molested young children. Only now is the Pope finally admitting what those Christians did.

I think that regardless of the label put embrace, your points about concentrating on love, friendship and helping those who need help make the most sense. Thank you for sharing this! Thank you for stopping by to say hello.

LOL.... perfectly described. I know some Evangelicals in the 21st century who feel the same way.

As a moderate Christian ,I tell them to f@ck off ( I know...so Christian of me, right ;) )

Good for you, @robertandrew. I have to agree with you and your suggestion to those Evangelicals of the 21st Century! Keep up the good work!
