Smiling causes the human brain to release a chemical called dopamine. This chemical makes us happy, it makes us feel good, it makes us feel energetic. In fact, the release of this chemical is so important to the human brain that when we smile, the dopamine in our brains increases. This is one of the main reasons why people find smiling contagious.

Of course, the most obvious way to increase the level of dopamine in the brain is through regular laughter, as laughter has a positive affect on our bodies. In fact, when we laugh, the muscles in the face tighten up, and this helps to decrease the risk of stress-related disorders, such as high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. So why doesn't smiling just make you feel better? Well, because there are many different chemicals released by the human brain when we laugh, and each one has a different affect on the human body. The release of a single chemical, called Serotonin, actually makes people happy and healthy, but if this Serotonin is combined with too many other chemicals, we can experience feelings of sadness and distress.

This is why smiling can be so contagious. When we smile, our bodies are releasing more of the happy chemicals, Serotonin and Dopamine. When we do so, our nervous systems are also receiving the happy chemicals, and this allows us to experience happiness and joy that others cannot. However, when we have too much of these happy chemicals in our body, then our bodies can experience distress and feelings of depression. That's why it's important to take in plenty of fruits and vegetables, take a walk every day, and avoid those toxins in our environment that we often get from smoke, drugs, and alcohol.

When the human brain is exposed to too much stress, then the neurons in the cells in the neurons start to die.
