Judges Apply Laws – Not Justice

We demand that judges be impartial and unbiased to ensure that they make the most sound of decisions. Yet how do we make sure that they really do leave their own personal prejudices at home? Is there such a thing as perfect impartiality? As human beings, we naturally attribute meaning to every single event that happens to us, little or big. From the day we are born, till the day we die, we will see the world from our own filtered viewpoint - one that is subject to bias and quite the opposite of purely objective.

The world in which we live in becomes one that is personalized. To see reality through an entirely objective lens would require us to be extremely mindful and conscious at all times, as we can’t help but be naturally compelled to see things in a way that screams “I’m biased all day long.” The moment our emotions, preferences, personal history, and beliefs enter the picture, it’s a real challenge to back away from what we’ve held for “truth” our whole life.

The system upon which we put all our blind trust into - has the duty of hiring apparent very “smart” individuals to do such difficult task for us. It’s unfortunately too bad if the “set” of individuals chosen to have the final say on a case don’t have the understanding and compassion you’d expect judges to have. Sadly, being “above the law” gives you the privilege of holding the destiny of human beings in your hands. It doesn’t matter that they don’t know “the bigger picture” , they are the ones who call the final shots, and you best believe they won’t do so without having at least some sort of bias running around through their minds.

Your best interests do not necessarily coincide with society’s best interests. And who makes the laws? We are fucked to begin with, and worse is the fact that we’ve been led to believe that we have “a say” in this.
Justice is blind, and so are we.
