College: Playground For Competitive Suffering

in #life5 years ago

You are yet to catch up with the real world if you've never studied any concepts outside the school syllabus or read any books beside the texts books school forced you to read. Most people are just programmed not educated.

Academic Highway To Unconsciousness

Sleeplessness is the norm. Pulling an all nighter is the lifestyle. Popping an adderall or two is the habit. Welcome to college. We don’t prepare you for the real world, here. We prepare you to become non stop working machines. If you wanna be one of “us”, you better play by the rules of productivity. Your agenda better be as tightly packed as it can humanely be. The shorter your nights of sleep, the higher your rank on the invisible board of recognition.

You can’t compete if you don’t follow the beat. We’re willing to do it all, just to pin a piece of paper on the fucking wall. And so we anticipate the moment when we’ll finally be able to strut around with that paper, thinking we’re hot stuff, believing we know it all. And the fact alone that we see things that way shows how little we know after all.

We brag to the world about the benefits of “pursuing a higher education” yet we never come to realize that we aren’t being educated, only indoctrinated. But in the eyes of unconscious and asleep beings, such a thought doesn’t hold much value. They are way too busy after all chasing that S, because in their minds, success is to be equated with the prestige of having the label P.h.D written after their last name.

Human beings will do anything to justify to themselves that they made the right choice. Killing my mental, emotional and physical health will be worth it when I’ll be holding my signed piece of paper in 3 years. Doesn’t matter what it took me to get there - so long as I get there. We dismiss our needs because we don’t want to lose the competition. Every occasion is a means to pride ourselves into believing that school smarts is the only kind of smart.

It’s the contest of who will remember the most. Of who will sacrifice the most to get the perfect grade. Of who’s memory’s works the hardest. Of who’s the best knowledge swallower. Of who spits it best on the day of the exam.
Isn’t ironic how students are willing to go to such extreme lengths to ace it academic wise, even to the point of subjecting themselves to suffering - yet when pain comes their way outside the academic realm, they suddenly exit the battleground. Avoidance, deflection, denial- anything to get their minds off what needs to be felt. Because unlike in school, the prize one gets from having conquered adversity head on isn’t one to proudly hold with our name on it.
