Fear of missing out

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Fear of missing out, a syndrome that developed with the rise of social networks. It’s the kind of fear that makes us to check Facebook and Twitter so often. Because we might miss something important. How could we continue our day if we don’t know what our friends had for lunch?

I think this affects the Steemit members as well, but in a different way. The way it could affect us it is not a fear of missing out news or important updates, but a fear of missing out the rewards.

I’ve read a lot of posts, comments and chat rants regarding people who are draining the pool, about people who are taking advantage of some whale account to gain more. On Steemit we are not afraid that we will miss something important, we have a fear the we will out some money.

It happened to me as well. I was thinking that it should be imperative that I write every day. No matter what. Because if I wasn’t writing anything, people couldn’t vote for my posts and I couldn’t get any money. And I really like money.

So I tried to write every day, getting excited when I saw the votes piling up and the potential rewards increasing as well. And feeling down when the votes were few and the rewards were low as well.

I’ve realised that this approach is a bad one. I can’t come up with good post ideas each day. And even if I have good ideas, working day in and day out, going to my job, coming home and write, it’s tiring. I don’t have time anymore to rest. I would push myself too hard, and instead of doing great, I’m actually doing a lousy job. Sometimes, more doesn’t mean better.

I will have to rethink my approach, in a way that will satisfy me as a writer. To be sure that every post that goes live, is the best post that I could write. And not write it because I need to post something or I will lose money.

What do you think? Do the fear of missing out is prowling around Steemit members? Or is just me and I’m ludicrous?

You have an honest and forthright approach to your writing. It is easy to relate to you. That is a rare gift.

You're right, we can become obsessed with the rewards here on Steemit. As you said though, just posting the best writing you can is what matters. The rewards will take care of themselves.

Thank you for appreciation. I'm glad you liked it.
I always try to write from my heart.

I'm new to Steemit thank you for your post I share those same fears it is nice to know that others experience similar concerns.
