The sad truth of society is that those at the top innovate and steer the course of humanity towards progress while those at the middle function as the engines that power them. This will always be the case as there always will be imbalances between people.

But the moral message of "You Can Do It!", despite constant repetition in all walks of life in itself, is insufficient because despite all effort expended in becoming something, they are lost in the sea of everybody doing something that they appear to be nothing - nothing special.

And why? Because people generally attempt to become good at what they like doing and become so in the process. Consequently, when you become average, it is because you are good at being average. And being good at being average ensures that you have a secure place in society, that's what most people aim for after all. But being good at being average entails expending resources to become good at a plethora of things that average people do. Everybody goes to the gym at some point, or tries to pick up an instrument or some other trade and the vast majority of them, despite having done so remain average. Why? You probably know why.

Lack of commitment, tried piano for a month, got bored and left. Tried to learn french, got stuck at subject-verb agreement. That is what the average does, they try to do so many things that they just don't end up becoming good at them. You need to focus on one thing and one thing only if you ever want to excel in it and not be average; and spending 2 hours extra every day doing one particular thing on top of you 8 hour job isn't too hard.

To seize your destiny, one must embrace the fact that it is difficult, and once that they have done so, have taken the first step in the long marathon of becoming something greater.
