Is There Any Point To Our Existence?

When we are going about our life, we have this embedded sense of significance. That our individual lives matter more than anything else. I mean how can we not feel this way, when it is all that we know since our birth?

Each of us has so many different aspects and aspirations attached to us. Add to that the presence of loved ones, our work, our preferences, likes and dislikes and I think it would be fair to say that every individual is a world of their own. That's why I guess when people meet, it is often referred to as worlds colliding.

It is only when we look at the larger picture that we realise our folly. The bigger picture often provides perspectives that we simply can't fathom looking at the micro pieces and the same goes for life too.

Forget the individual, the entire human race seems like a handful of molecules on a speck of dust we know as Earth when you think about it in terms of the whole existence. Even the whole solar system is like a tiny, insignificant point of light among billions of others. The same goes for our galaxy as well!

Is There A Point?

The more you think about our existence in contrast to the cosmos, the more you feel insignificant. This goes contrary to everything we feel and believe but it is the truth. I mean, think about it. If we were all to vanish tomorrow, who would care? The universe would simply go about as it is.

You could look at it another way and come to the same conclusion. The universe is 13.8 billion years old. Compare that to a reasonable lifespan of 80 years of a human. That's 13,800,000,000 years versus 80 years. On the scale of the cosmos, an individual's life is truly a fraction of a second's worth of phenomenon. Gone with a snap!

All our lives, we do so much. The sheer number of things we do is just remarkable. We work, live, eat, laugh, cry, go through a billion thoughts and feelings, take one path after another and before we know it, we are gone. What is the point of it all?

It's almost as if we are born to play a small role just like an actor on a stage and when we are done, we go away. But you see, the actor's role has a point - to entertain an audience. What point does a person's life have if there is no audience? Or is there something larger, something deeper that we just can't figure out yet? Could there really be a point to our existence?

Without existence there is no meaning and no points.

But that doesn't answer what meaning is there with the existence.

It is up to each of you to determine the meaning of your own existence.

That may be the sanest explanation we will probably come up with.

I used to believe that there was, and then I thought there wasn't any purpose; these days I have no idea...

I personally believe that there is a point to our existence. But, the irony is, majority of the people take it long to recognize their life purpose. So, if some way, we can correct it...
